About PowerPick
An independent Powerball resource built for players who want honest information, not just hype.
Who We Are
PowerPick is an independent website run by a small team of writers and researchers with a shared interest in applied probability and personal finance. None of us work for a lottery operator, a gaming company, or an affiliate marketing firm. We do not sell tickets, we do not receive referral fees for directing players to specific products, and we have no financial relationship with the Multi-State Lottery Association or any state lottery commission.
We started PowerPick because the information that regularly circulates about Powerball — online, on social media, in tabloids — is frequently inaccurate. Common claims about "hot numbers," "systems that work," and "strategies to improve your odds" are not supported by the mathematics of the game. We wanted to build a resource that starts from what the numbers actually say and presents it plainly, without the filter of trying to sell you something.
Our Editorial Standards
Every factual claim on this site is sourced from primary documents: the official Powerball game rules and prize structure published by the Multi-State Lottery Association, IRS publications on gambling income taxation, individual state revenue department guidance, and published academic research on lottery economics and probability. When a source is contested or uncertain, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as settled.
We update our guides when rules change. The most common triggers are:
- Matrix changes to the Powerball or Mega Millions games
- Federal or state tax law revisions affecting gambling income
- New states joining or leaving the game
- Changes to the Power Play multiplier structure
Every guide displays an "Updated:" date at the top. If you find information that appears to be out of date or factually incorrect, please use our contact form to let us know. We take accuracy corrections seriously and respond to most reports within 48 hours.
Our Number Generator
The Powerball number generator at the heart of this site uses JavaScript's Math.random() function, which is a pseudorandom number generator (PRNG) sufficient for the purposes of lottery number selection. It produces numbers with a uniform distribution across the required ranges: 5 white balls from 1 to 69 (without duplicates), and 1 Powerball from 1 to 26.
A common question is whether our generator is "better" or "more random" than the Quick Pick function at a retailer terminal. The practical answer is: no meaningful difference. Both are PRNGs operating over the same ranges. Neither can improve your mathematical odds of winning, because those odds are determined entirely by the drawing apparatus, not by how your ticket numbers were chosen. Our generator exists as a convenient, browser-based alternative for players who do not want to rely on in-store Quick Picks or prefer to see their numbers before purchasing.

Responsible Play
Every page on this site carries a responsible gaming notice. We actively link to the National Problem Gambling Helpline and do not use persuasive techniques to encourage increased play.
Our Values
- Honesty about odds: We never suggest that any tool, system, or strategy can meaningfully improve your chances of winning Powerball. The odds are what they are, and we explain them plainly.
- Source transparency: Claims about prize structures, odds, and tax rates are tied to official sources. We do not repeat popular-but-unverified statistics without noting their uncertainty.
- No manipulation: We do not use countdown timers, false urgency, or persuasive dark patterns to encourage more ticket buying or more page views. We benefit from advertising revenue, and we believe the honest approach produces better long-term readership than manufactured excitement.
- Privacy by default: We do not require accounts. We do not collect names or email addresses. We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for aggregate site traffic analysis only.
- Accessibility: The site works on all modern browsers and devices without requiring JavaScript for the informational content (the number generator requires JS). Text contrast, font sizing, and semantic HTML are designed with readability in mind.

All lottery information on this site is provided for educational purposes. While we strive for accuracy, rules, prize amounts, and tax laws can change. Always verify current information through official lottery and government sources before making financial decisions.
Playing the lottery involves real money and real risk. Every dollar spent on a ticket is, on average, worth less than a dollar in expected prizes. Our content is educational, not financial advice.
